PTA Programs
The goal of PTA Programs is to improve the education, health and well-being of our students. Wyatt PTA offers a number of programs focused on increasing family engagement and supporting our students. All of these programs are funded by the generous donations of our Wyatt families.
We are always looking for new volunteers to help with our programs. If you are interested in helping, please sign up using our online volunteer tool.
Environmental Programs
We know that the best way to educate our citizenry in sustainability is through our children. That is why Wyatt is trying to earn the Green Ribbon School Award this year. There are four areas of growth to work on to earn this prestigous award:
- Eco-Campus
- Nature Adventure
- Health and Fitness
- Natural Classroom
Learn more about our quest to earn the Green Ribbon Award on our Go Green! page.
Health Concerns & Youth Safety
Keeping our students safe and helping them to make healthy life choices is a top priority for us. To that end, Wyatt PTA sponsors two assemblies and speakers throughout the year to entertain students while teaching them important life lessons about how to set goals, respect & believe in themselves and others, make safe choices, choose to be drug free and make positive life choices. We will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week October 24-28th, 2011. Student Council is planning a fun-filled spirit week.
Reflections & Arts in Education
Reflections is a national PTA sponsored arts recognition program that encourages artistic expression. The theme for this year's program is "Diversity means...". Students interested in participating are asked to use their imagination to create a film, song, artwork, photograph, poem, short story or dance routine that reflects the theme. Detailed rules and entry forms can be found in the Wyatt front office or at www.txpta.org (click on "Refections" at the bottom of the page).

For inspiration, check out the Reflections National Gallery at www.ptareflections.org/cs/program_gallery.

After School Clubs
AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS
Book Club -Students of all ages read and discuss a variety of books with their grade level. Club will meet 4 times throughout the year.
Chess Club - Students of all ages master their skills in the game of chess. The Chess Club is capped at 32 students across the following levels: Beginner=8 Students, Intermediate=12 Students, Advanced=12 Students. Students will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. Parent volunteers are still needed to assist in this popular club, led by Dean Carpenter. The club meets once a month. We have had an amazing turnout for this club, and therefore registration is currently closed.
KC Club - Based on the philosophy of Rachel’s Challenge, this club promotes Kindness and Compassion by doing acts of kindness and service projects for the school, community, and beyond. Due to overwhelming student interest last year, the club will be capped to achieve a set volunteer/student ratio. The club meets 4 times per year. It's not too late to join! Contact Laurie Thompson at laurie_thompson@verizon.net.
Investment Club - Fourth and Fifth graders can learn about stocks and invest imaginery funds by playing the Stock Market Game sponsored by the Texas Council on Economic Education and the Dallas Morning News. The game will be played over a period of 10 weeks in both the Fall and the Spring. While playing the game, students will learn to work as a team and use/learn math principles, business and economic concepts. The club meets once a week. We are currently taking enrollment for the spring session - contact Laurie Thompson at laurie_thompson@verizon.net if your 4th or 5th grader would like to participate.
Parent volunteers are critical to the continuation of these clubs. If you are interested in volunteering, please access the Volunteer Signup system.
If your child is interested in any of these great clubs please email Laurie Thompson at laurie_thompson@verizon.net with the child's name, grade/teacher, parent phone number and how your child will get home after the club.
Hospitality & Teacher Appreciation
We have WONDERFUL teachers and staff here at Wyatt and it is our privilege to tream them on occasion. Throughout the year, we provide lunch, birthday treats and more.
Kiss & Cry Coffee/Tea - After you drop off your child on the first day of school, be sure to drop by the library to attend the "Kiss & Cry" event! This is for newcomers to Wyatt as well as existing Wyatt parents. The PTA will have coffee and breakfast treats for you and be there in the event you need a shoulder to cry on! This is a great way to meet the new PTA executive board members as well as other Wyatt parents!
Field Day
Wyatt students look forward to our annual Field Day each spring. Excitement builds as the students get ready for a day filled with movement, play, healthy competition, teamwork and sportsmanship. Field Day is Friday, May 18th, 2012. (Rain date is May 25th)
